can you imagine though? the two groups of kids meet, jake and dirk are broken up, and suddenly dirk sees john: this perfect jake look-alike that hangs out with his super-cool bro, with actual powers and a degree of experienced maturity and at least some semblance of a clue.
and here’s dirk, caught totally off guard and young and inexperienced and tongue tied, and it took him three years to work up the nerve and a sufficiently cunning plan to make a move on jake, and now he has one chance to make a good impression and so he says literally the first thing that pops into his head.
and then immediately realizes exactly what a fucking tool he sounds like.
but john is just sort of all “yeah they are cool, you must be dave’s bro, haha do you rap too” yada yada yada being really cheerful and friendly, and dirk just sort of goes weak with relief but let’s his shades hide it and plays it cool and falls in love all over again.

There’s a difference between saving someone’s life, capitulating under heavy duress, and seeking someone out for romantic interaction, you know. That Dirk is able to emotionally disengage in a crisis and perform resuscikisses without hesitating, or that he is unwilling to fight his lifelong best friend when she is in a severely altered mental state and he is struggling with depression, does not merit calling his exclusive attraction to dudes into question. It just means that he doesn’t consider kissing to be an exclusively romantic gesture, which I might add is a valuable view for a S—-b player to have considering the practical application of kissing within the game.

I’ve suspected for a while now that the reason that the kids are going so out of control as Tricksters is that Trickster Mode takes a certain kind of mental complexity to handle that humans generally don’t have:
It’s not meant to be experienced by a being with a singular mind. You need two or more consciousnesses working in tandem to benefit from the powerup of Trickster Mode without going bugfuck insane. The Cals would not have ever had access to the complete juju until they either integrated to some degree or learned to cooperate with each other.
Jane, Jake, and Roxy are overwhelmed by being Tricksters because they are, in this respect at least, neurotypical humans. Dirk, on the other hand - he’s not precisely multiple, at least not the way that the cherubs are, but as the Prince of Heart he’s always had strong themes of fractured and dissociative consciousness. I suspect that’s why he’s able to continue to think straight while a Trickster - there’s some splinter of his psyche that’s distinct enough from whatever part of him took the full brunt of the Tricksterish hypermanic effect that he’s able to still function as a rational human being.
Dirk refusing to resort to punching Roxy to get her away from him does not mean he’s romantically interested in her.
Dirk repeatedly stating that he does not feel that way for her means he does not feel that way for her.
Dirk is not in love with Roxy.
Dirk doesn’t even have the slightest inkling of romantic attraction for her, which he’s said, multiple times.
That update was basically one big bout of sexual harrassment on Roxy’s part, even if induced by crazy juju powers.
Dirk made it clear he didn’t want it. He threatened to hurt her with his sword, but couldn’t bring himself to hurt his friend in the end.
Literally the only reason he kissed her is because he convinced himself he would be uncapable of feeling happiness if he didn’t join his friends in their candy-crazed insanity.
If you find that at all cute, I really don’t want to associate with you as a fellow Dirk/Roxy shipper.
Roxy is the only girl I can ship Dirk with, but this tag is actually making me sick with how many people are happy with that kiss.
Dirk just consented to marry and have babies with a girl he clearly doesn’t love, because he thinks there’s no other choice.
That should not make you happy.
